SUSWA's approach to mandatory chlorination in water schemes has become a national approach now
On 15th Falgun 2081, the Ministry of Water Supply (MoWS) initiated a movement for safe water by promoting the installation of chlorine dosing units in water supply schemes. The ministry called upon all three levels of government, donor agencies, government and non-government organizations, and the private sector to collaborate and take joint actions to maintain water quality standards. This initiative aligns with the targets set by the WASH Policy 2080, the 16th National Plan, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SUSWA project, supported by the Government of Nepal (GoN), the Government of Finland (GoF), and the European Union (EU), has been working in Karnali for the past 3.5 years with a mandatory chlorination approach to ensure safe water access. So far, SUSWA has provided safe water to 57,176 people, covering approximately 4% of the total population of Karnali Province. From the beginning, the project has actively advocated for safe water at the community, local government, provincial, national, and even international levels.
