Sarkegaad 3, Humla
There was nothing in this place, except for some huts. Herders would use this path to access Sarkegaad and to transport goods. And they would stay at my place.
I have been running this hotel for the last 19 years. One is expected to keep the premises and the kitchen clean for the guests who come tired after covering long distances. But no matter how much I keep my place clean it just looks dirty with all the flies. You see there is no effective drainage system here. The rain water gets trapped and the earth becomes a bog. It takes days and days for the earth to dry. The damp surrounding is a very good place for the flies to lay their eggs. Look around there is flies everywhere. I keep wiping and cleaning the place but it does not work. They are everywhere.
People also have a bad habit. They do not dispose of their garbage in a proper place. They throw wherever it is convenient for them without thinking about the environmental impact it might have. There are plastics everywhere. All you need is to walk on the banks of the Karnali and you will see a dump of garbage. The local government is very ineffective here. Saving the Karnali and keeping it clean is not their priority. There is bribery and corruption and the money that should be utilized for basic things like clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene are used in filling the pockets of these people.
This will definitely have a negative impact on our health. The flies bring germs, sit on our utensils and water containers and we have no choice but to consume the dirty food and water.
And what if my guests become sick? That is not what I want. I want to be able to serve them good and healthy food. As long as people’s behavior remain the same and they do not understand that we have to protect the environment small business owners like us will have to suffer.
The main problem that we face today is the knee deep mud. We can hardly walk. With the mud and the waste that is mixed in it, we bring it home and we bring the flies home. If there were pipes and channels from where excess water could pass our lives would be easy. We could sleep at night knowing our children are safe and healthy.

सर्केगाड ३, हुम्ला
यहा पहिले केहि थियेन। केहि झुपडि हरु थिए। ग्वाला हरु सार्केगाड पुग्न यो बाटो प्रयोग गर्थे । अनि उनिहरु मेरो घर मा बास बस्न थाले।
मैले तो होटल चलाएको १९ बर्श भयो । लामो बाटो हिडेर आयेका पाहुनाहरुको लागि भएपनि आन्गन र भान्सा त सफा राख्नु नै पर्छ। तर जति कोशिस गरेपनि यो झिन्गा हरु को कारण फोहोर नै देखिन्छ । हम्रो गा उ मा व्यवस्तित ढल निकास छैन। पानि पर्यो भने सबै पानि येतै जम्मा हुन्छ । अनि भुइ पनि दल्दल जस्तो हुन्छ । अनि यो सुक्न पनि धरै समय लाग्छ । येस्तो चिसो भुइ अनि जामेको पानि मा धेरै झिन्गा लाग्छन अनि अन्डा पार्छन । हेर्नुस त चारै तिर झिन्गा नै झिन्गा छन। जति पुसे पनि जति सफा राखे पनि जादैनन ।
मान्छेहरुको पनि राम्रो बानि त कहा छ र ? घर आन्गन को फोहोर ठिक ठा उ मा फल्दैनन । वातावरण मा पर्ने नराम्रो असर को बरेमा केहि नसोचि जता सजिलो त्यतै फाल्छन। वरिपरि हेर्नु भो भने जत ततै प्लाटिक छ। कर्नालि किनार तिर गएर हेर्नु भो भने फोहोर को धेरै थुप्रो देख्नुहुन्छ । स्थानिय सर्कार पनि यो कुरा मा खासै चसो नलिएको देखिन्छ। कर्नालि लाइ प्रदुषण बाट बचाउने र पानि सफा राख्ने वहाहरुको सोचमा छैन। धुस लिने र भ्रस्टाचरको कारण सफा पिउने पानि, डल निकास र स्वास्थ जस्ता आदार्भुत सुभिधा बाट हामि हरु बन्चित छौ।
यो कारण हरुले गर्दा हाम्रो स्वास्थ मा नराम्रो असर परिरहेको छ । झिन्गा हरुले कितणु लिएर आ उ छ न, हाम्रो भाडाकुडा हरु मा बस्छन अनि हामि बिवस भयेर त्यै ख़ान्छौ।
मेरो होटल मा आ उ ने पा उ ना हरु बिरामि भये भने ?त त्यो म चा ह दिन। आएका सबैलाइ राम्रो र स्वास्थकर खाना खुवाउने मेरो कोसिस हुन्छ तर जब सम्म मान्छेहरुको सोचमा परिवर्तन आउदैन र उनिहरुले वतावरण र प्रक्रितिको बारेम बुझ्दैनन तब सम्म म जस्तो साना व्यवसाय गर्ने हरुले दुख भोग्नु पर्छ।
हाम्रो अर्को ठुलो समस्या भनेको यो माटो को दल दल हो। हामिलाइ हिड्नै गारो छ । अनि यो पानि कतै जाने ठाउ नभएकाले यहा घरबाट निस्किने फोहोर पनि मिसिन्छ। यो हिलो कहिले काहि घु्डा घु्डा सम्म आ उ छ अनि हामिले झिन्गा हरु आफैनै घरमा ल्याइरहेका हुन्छौ । यदि यो ठा उ म पा इ प हरु लगाएर पानि निकास गर्ने व्यवस्था हुने थियो भने हाम्रो जिवन सजिलो हुन्थ्यो र हामि हाम्रो परिवार स्वस्थ छन भनेर निर्धक हुने थियौ।
